Google Earth Gets Better
If you haven't tried the new Google Earth download, it's even smoother and more mindboggling than it was before. This is so worth five minutes of your time.

It is nice. People kept telling me how great it is. But I still don't understand what am I using it for?
It will eventually be Mapquest on steroids...there's already a function to get directions etc. On a larger scale, you can see the impact of Katrina. On a commercial level, this is a new advertising channel for retailers. :) Supposedly, the next hottest thing in ecommerce (from the point of view of marketers) is what's called geo-targeting. You are advertising to a geographically limited group of people. So, for example, Gioco's could spend it's advertising dollars on people who live in the South Loop, or who are interested in visiting the South Loop. I highly doubt Google would do anything unless there were commercial opportunity. ;)
I'm not sure I'd use it in liew of Mapquest unless I am flying to my destination by helicopter. I generally would not care what it looks like from above.
