Foie Gras
From the Trib:
Turning aside objections from restaurateurs who said it was not the city's business to dictate what diners could eat, an aldermanic panel today recommended that the full City Council ban the sale of foie gras in Chicago, WGN-720 AM reported.

Okay, set aside the fact that it is meat, what right does the government have to interfere with food choices? I suppose though, it is alright to set tariffs on farmers and limit the number of Mexican avocados that cross the border to protect domestic revenues, but c'mon! City Council telling me I can't buy foie gras?!?

rofl!!! hey, it's not my fault that American avocadoes suck!!! I want to be able to eat my foie gras filled Mexican avocado!!!
btw...you realize you're advocating government stay out of your life? are you becoming a Republican? :-)
She did lunch at "bloomies." Sigh, all that good Berkeley brain washing is vanishing.
At the risk of becoming labeled... :)
I don't believe government has the right to interfere with our personal lives:
- gay marriage
- eating foie gras
- travelling to Cuba
I also don't believe the government should intervene in business when the issue involves a single business, i.e there should not have been a bailout for individual airlines. If United is bankrupt, then there are other profitable lines (JetBlue, SWA, etc.) that can better manage those routes. I don't believe in industry regulation. I think that tariffs mess with the natural economic flow and with principle of comparative advantage.
:)
I don't believe in unions.
Could go on and on and on, but point is, the government should manage the country as a whole, and not the individual or any one specific company. Telling me that I cannot buy a specific product is interfering with individual choice.
