Matsumoto - Darn good But Pricey

Matsumoto
3800 W. Lawrence Ave.
773-267-1555

Matsumoto, which is named to honor executive chef Seijiro Matsumoto, comes from the husband-and-wife team of Chiyo and Isao Tozuka, who also own Chicago Kalbi Restaurant. Matsumoto is unlike any other eatery in Chicago, featuring highly seasonal sequential meals called kaiseki (pronounced kah-e-seh-ke ). (Chicago Tribune)

Dinner was 10 courses. I think Eva was full by the fourth course! They are now also offering ala carte dinners. If you have never had kaiseki before, the set menu is a good thing to try. Otherwise this is pretty good but the strengths of the dinner was in the quality of the sashimi and nigri courses, which you can do ala carte easily. The cho toro was clearly the best I've had in the United States. Its Japan good!

Follow the link to see pictures of all 10 courses.
