Ravinia Tickets have Arrived!

Our Gershwin tickets have arrived! Here are the deets:

Gershwin Gala
July 15, 7p
Lawn Seats
$11
This year's Women's Board Gala Benefit Evening will be a Gershwin Gala to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the composer's Ravinia concert of 1936, when people actually climbed trees to get a glimpse of him while he performed his Rhapsody in Blue. That work, which will be part of this year's Gala concert, demonstrates the fusion Gershwin was trying to create between jazz and classical symphonic forms. The program will also include selections from Porgy and Bess, which had its world premiere less than a year before Gershwin's Ravinia debut. Who could ask for anything more?

I'll distribute tix at Neha's bday dinner, please have cash for me then, thanks! :)

Is That A Baby Driving the Motorcycle?!

Not photoshopped!

What do you mean???

Michelle, what do you mean I didn't invite you to Cuba? You were there!!!

Manish and Neha were in Cuba With Us

Proof! Manish and Neha were in Cuba with us as well. They weren't cold like we were though, but that was because they were eating pizza. Neha's making a face because Manish ate too much pizza and let one squeak out...

Dave and I went to Cuba

Last weekend, Dave and I were sitting around on our one-year anniversary wondering what we could do to celebrate. It was a very special moment, and we wanted to reward ourselves. So we decided to go to Cuba. Here's a picture to prove it. I think this weekend we're going to Rome.

Dave in Great Pain

Pict of Dave crossing the finish line at the Lake Geneva 5k. It was a toughie, as the course was essentially two hills. Up one, down one, up one, down one, turn around, repeat. Up one, down one, up one, down one. It hurt.

Our next run is the Run for the Zoo on June 4. Zero hills, should be fun. :)

No picts of me, I was running too fast. ;) Actually Dave won this one, though as he sprinted, he was pummeling me with his backswing. I'll get him on the next one. :)

Elmhurst leads nation in sex???

- You might call suburban Elmhurst a "bedroom community" and a new service from Google would seem to back that up.

According to Google Trends, Elmhurst led the country last month in the number of searches for news stories about sex.

Elmhurst Mayor Thomas Marcucci joked that the town doesn't have gentlemen's clubs or similar businesses, so maybe that's why people go online.

CHICAGO'S ROAD TO CHINA

Mayor Daley's second day in China

On the other side of the world it is hot and sunny, as Chicago Mayor Richard Daley completes day two of his visit to Beijing. The mayor spent most of this day sharing meals with Chicago business people already in China, trying to encourage Chinese businesses to come to Chicago....

Evolution of Dance

Alright, so the first three minutes are pretty funny...he takes us through the twist, dicso, etc...but it gets HILARIOUS when you start getting into the 80s and 90s. I think my favorite move was "Ride the Pony" followed closely by the worm. Awesome! Click picture to see clip.

$5 off Dean and Deluca

Alright guys, one of these days, it would be nice to have this blog reside on our own domain. I've already purchased urban-tribe-chicago.com, but before I start paying for hosting, it would be nice if we started taking notice of the advertisements in the right column. If you purchase from those featured merchants, we'll start earning commission, all of which will go toward hosting fees.

I'll rotate out the merchants on a regular basis. :)

Chopstix tax may be hard to swallow

Whatever...

--------------------

In a move that has cheered environmentalists but worried restaurant owners, China has slapped a 5 percent tax on the chopsticks over concerns of deforestation.

The move is hitting hard at the Japanese, who consume a tremendous 25 billion sets of wooden chopsticks a year -- about 200 pairs per person. Some 97 percent of them come from China.
Chinese chopstick exporters have responded to the tax increase and a rise in other costs by slapping a 30 percent hike on chopstick prices -- with a planned additional 20 percent increase pending.

The price hike has sent Japanese restaurants scrambling to find alternative sources for chopsticks, called "waribashi" in Japanese.

"We're not in an emergency situation yet, but there has been some impact," said Ichiro Fukuoka, director of Japan Chopsticks Import Association...

TipVision

If you want to know what I've been working on for the last few weeks go to the following link:

http://www.tipvision.com/6abc/

Then go down to the tipvision player and click on the categories. Basically I had one week to find the experts, set up the interviews and find the subjects for these and another 30 segments. Then another week to shoot, and this last week to edit....this is just a test site on our own website...the official thing launches June 1st. Eventually, there will be a free player for blogs like ours to add the player with just one tip a day provided by us. Happy viewing!
