Halloween Plans?

When are we going to go pick pumpkins? I also need to go second-hand shopping to find my costume. Are we going to do anything fun? We could order in pizza, watch scary movies and hand out candy. Also, there's a party at Rob's on the 29th, but it's in the burbs. Let me know if you want to join us!

Fish Badger???

Google Posts

"When Google AdSense doesn't find any relevant ads to show, it shows the public ads. Kind of funny too. If you click the archive links (August and September), you see we were interested in birthday cards in August and Chinese food in September. I vote that for October we talk about mmm...tomatoes?

Brady in Action

Look what I got in email today...

Donald Rumsfeld is giving President Bush his daily briefing.

He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, three Brazilian soldiers were killed."

"OH, NO!" the president exclaims. "That's terrible!"

His staff, stunned at this display of emotion, watches nervously as the President sits, head in hands.

Finally, President Bush looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"

A ThinkPad Update

Thanks to Manish, I learned a ton this evening. He taught me how to install drivers properly (I was stupid enough to assume that all I needed to do was execute the installation file) and how to upgrade the memory. So by the time I left the Shah's, my monitor was working properly. When I got home, I realized that the audio wasn't working. So now that driver is properly installed. And I learned that the "-s" bit at the end tells the computer to do an "unattended install." Fine by me. Additionally, since Eva mentioned it, I updated my bios, which was nervewracking as it took me into that crap-ASCI looking setup process. The only thing I need to do now is check to see if the microphone is configured properly so mom and dad can google chat with me. They're addicted. Ah, and have also decided to uninstall everything off the Dell and turn that into a music machine. It'll have all the MP3s, iTunes and Rhapsody. So that'll be a fun fall project. Okay. I've overloaded. I'm going to bed.

Manish and Dave are rock stars!

Dave, that was the right driver, I just didn't know how to install it right. Manish pointed out that if I read the associated "README" file, I would have seen it. Sure, but I still don't understand what -s -sms mean!

Hardcore

Work has become hardcore. Ridiculous amount of work. No more laying back and relaxing mode!!!!

Argh, I need help. Windows 2000 installed fine, but the display is all funky. I'm limited to VGA for some reason. Anyone know why?

Why do nipples get hard?

Before you get any perverted ideas...this is a legitimate, scientific question! Why do nipples get hard? For women, wouldn't this interfere with the physical function of a nipple? And heck, on men, they're useless enough as is!

They ARE little penis nubbins stunted by evolution!!!

Our Favorite Topic: Food

From the NYT this morning, an article on the evolution of Chicago's gastronomic culture:
Surveying the country's restaurants in 1976, the food writer Waverley Root and his co-author, Richard de Rochemont, sniffed, "Chicago has not developed restaurants which have left their mark on history, unless you count the collective mark of its steakhouses." In 2005, eating in Chicago is almost painful: to choose one superb restaurant is to reject a dozen others.

This is for exercising?!

As you all know, I've just joined the Lake Shore Athletic Club up on Wabash. I love it. Hot tub, swimming pool, tennis courts, etc. It's not fancy schmancy EBC, but it's very comfortable. HOWEVER, they have the strangest exercise balls I have ever seen in my life. I absolutely cannot figure out what the phalluses on this ball are for! Clearly, it was architected by a man. A woman would have either A) made the ball pink; B) made the holds bigger; or C) made the holds shaped like rings rather than penises.

"chili-spiked, deep-fried chicken lollipops"??

NYTimes:
NEW YORKERS always think they know the real thing when it comes to Chinese food. Forty years ago it was egg rolls, chop suey and drinks with paper umbrellas. Then it was General Tso's chicken and sesame noodles.

But over the past decade, as large communities of people from India, Peru, Korea, Trinidad and Guyana have formed here, New York has had to expand its ideas about what Chinese food can be.

"I call them second-generation Chinese restaurants," said Cheuk Kwan, who has directed a documentary film about the spread of Chinese restaurants around the world. "These restaurants always have a hyphen: Chinese-Venezuelan, Chinese-Norwegian, Chinese-Mexican.

Neha and Manish Pool Party

Thanks to Neha and Manish for hosting a spectacular pool & pizza party. We had doubts if there would be any food and were pleasantly surprised to see meat pizzas. However, are Manish and Neha trying to tell the rest of us with the diet sodas that we need to lose weight?

Carolyn, what'd ya do this weekend?

Pooh...pooh...pooh!

I have no idea why most places celebrate Oktoberfest in September, (everywhere but Utica from what I've seen); but this last weekend, Oak Park had its festival. Cute, a few food kiosks set up near the pedestrian-only area and a few of those carnival games. In this one, kids aimed water guns at a target, and the longer they held the target in their sights, the higher the Pooh dolls went. I missed the action shot, but if you can just visualize 10 or more Winnie the Poohs slowly racing up the pole...

Eatzi's in Chicago

Eatzi's, the ultimate in take out, has finally opened in Chicago in the Lincoln Park area. There is a wide array of ready made food along with cooked or grilled to order, cheeses, breads, and desserts. There is a dine-in area consisting of about 20 tables and three difficult to operate microwaves.

CTang's Childhood Home

Dammit, I miss Cali. You can see my high school, junior high and elementary school in this picture. You can also see the beaches we used to go have lunch at, body surf at, and where I used to go at night after getting into a fight with my mom. I miss the ocean. Tremendously.

Napoleon Dynamite vs. Bill Gates?

Microsoft's Gates faces off with Napoleon Dynamite
Tuesday September 13 10:12 PM ET

Pick your favorite geek: Napoleon Dynamite or Bill Gates?

Seeking to capitalize on the popularity of the 2004 cult movie "Napoleon Dynamite," Microsoft Corp. on Tuesday screened a video spoof for software developers in which the film's celebrated anti-hero reports to work as a programer for the world's largest software maker.

In a face-off between the two nerd icons, Jon Heder, the actor who plays Napoleon Dynamite, beats Gates in a slapping match to become the head of the software giant.

Gates is shown recruiting Heder's fictional character, after which they are seen together in ill-fitting brown suits on Microsoft's campus in Redmond, Washington.

In the last scene of the video spoof, Gates is seen scurrying into the office of his boss, Napoleon Dynamite.

Microsoft often uses major events to poke fun at its competitive business culture and and its hands-on chairman, Gates, the company's largest individual shareholder and the world's richest man with an estimated net worth of more than $48 billion.

Microsoft showed developers preliminary versions of its upgrades of its flagship Windows and Office programs to software developers at this weeks' conference in Los Angeles.

Brady called Eva a MILF...and did not expound. I'm guessing this is some sort of private joke, but how about we try to figure out what he's referring to??

2) Mommy, I love farmers

3) Mysterious, illigitimate love foam

4) May I lick firehydrants?

Any other suggestions?

DM concert tickets pre-sale information!

Okay kids,

Here's the deal. Depeche Mode has a tour pre-sale system. It works like this:

1) Pre-purchase the album on iTunes for $12.
2) Ticketmaster will send you a special code to purchase tickets from in a pre-sale, before it's available to regular public.
3) As soon as the album is released in mid-late October, it will be delivered to you in electronic format.

The catch is you can only have 4 tickets per code in the pre-sale. You have until September 23rd at 10 pmto purchase the album. The tickets go on sale on the 24th. .

What I need to know is 2 tickets are already taken for Neha and myself. Which of you punks would more then likely be interested in going to see the show, and doing it through prepurchase? What's gay is that you can't get 8 tickets in a row! But at least you'll get good seats and see a great show.

Below are the two links to the information:

Creepy Guy: Well, this bush looked like I should pee on it. Why are you peeing on it?

Kumar: Well, no one was here when I chose this bush.

Creepy Guy: Oh, so you get to pee on it and no one else does? Huh?

Kumar: No, it's just... I just...

Napolean in new Movie

Our own Napolean is starring in a new movie entitled Just Like Heaven...

Loyola found housing!

Loyola was able to accomodate all the incoming Katrina refugee students...
http://www.luc.edu/alumni/hurricaneResponse.shtml

I tell ya, they're tiny little schools, but those Jesuits sure stick together. Also, Metropolis, that cafe on Granville/Kenmore, is collecting clothing. I'll be dropping my stuff off there on Monday. If you guys have anything you'd like to contribute, let me know and I'll come pick it up. :)

Ads

Kind of neat...the ad at the very bottom of our blog utilizes geo-targeting. I think google sniffs our IP, determines that we're in Chicago, passes the info along to grubhub (great site, btw) so the landing page is dynamic based on location.

Now THAT is fantastic online advertising. We're up to about $4 :)

Finally moved in

Big sigh of relief. We are finally moved in and things put away. Just weird that we can look across the way into other people's apartment quite clearly. There is even a lday that walks around in her panties and the only reason why we know is cause she has no curtains...i bet she does it on purpose. :P:P Anyway, once I get food I might have a small party not sure when but ill let you know

To buy or not to buy? That is the question

Brady and Carolyn, I need opinions on this set.

How gorgeous is this...last night, Brian texts me and my first day starts at 10a! :) Enough time to make coffee, breakfast, pack a lunch, make my bed, and go for a run. I'm still a 9a start kind of gal, but it won't be too hard to get used to the flexibility.
